Optera 230 Tripod

Trek Teck Optera 230

The Trek Tech Optera 230 tripod is a flexible tripod suitable for use by pro’s and amateur photographers alike. Like the Gorillapod that introduced flexible legs on a tripod that can be used to grip and be wrapped around railings etc, this model does much the same, but with a leg length of 230mm it can carry weight up to 10lbs (approx 4.5kgs).

There is also a longer version the Optera 460 pro, which can handle a camera with up to a 400mm lens attached.

The Optera 230 comes with the MagConnect PRO system to mount the camera to the tripod, but requires that you fit the adapter to your camera using the screw thread. Included with the tripod are two adapters, a lightweight plastic threadmount for smaller cameras and a metallic STAR MagAdapter for heavier DSLR’s.

If you shoot with more than one tripod, this could be problematic as the thread mount needs to be taken off in order to use with other traditional quick release plates. The metallic Star MagAdapter requires an alum key to tighten it securely as it is difficult to sufficiently tighten the mount by hand.

Overall this product is good for photographers who shoot in awkward places or at awkward angles as the rubberized feet provide decent traction and with an all weather water resistent cover that can be used to cover your camera as well, the Optera 230 is a useful addition to your camera bag.
